Northbrook School To Continue Via E-Learning

Northbrook school officials say online learning will continue via smart devices provided to students, starting Tuesday.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The new coronavirus has been cause to many closures and interruptions in daily life for millions of students, but that's not stopping some school officials from keeping the learning going. Northbrook School District 28 is launching an e-learning program beginning Tuesday, according to a media release from the district. Students went home with digital devices Friday and will be able to learn from home.

"The administrative team and tech crew have been working non-stop since last week to design a system so that students can continue to learn from home. Teachers have also been working on lesson plans since last week and participated in a live stream in-service on Monday to work through the details," the release said.

Teachers are working to develop plans for students with Individual Education Plans, Section 504 Plan and those who receive English language services.

"The Board of Education and I want to thank our dedicated staff for working non-stop to get this up and running in order to start e-learning tomorrow," Superintendent Larry Hewitt said in the release. "Our goal is to work in partnership with parents to provide learning experiences for our children while they are at home."

The Board of Education is holding an abbreviated meeting Thursday on topics "essential to the ongoing operations of the school district."

"Given the COVID-19 pandemic, community members who are considering attending, are urged to instead watch the Board meeting online via the live stream link on the Northbrook District 28 YouTube Channel."
