Northbrook Symphony's 46th Season Set To Kick Off With Opening Concert

The program features Mozart's Oboe Concerto and Violin Concerto No. 5 ("Turkish") as well as Haydn's "Farewell" Symphony.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The Northbrook Symphony's 46th season will open next month at the Sheely Center for the Performing Arts. Robert Chen, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's concertmaster NSO's creative partner, will lead the orchestra.

The program features Mozart's Oboe Concerto and Violin Concerto No. 5 ("Turkish") as well as Haydn's "Farewell" Symphony. The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 5, at 2300 Shermer Road.

Both Chen and William Welter, a principal oboist for the CSO, will perform.

In addition, there will be a complimentary pre-concert discussion about the program at 3 p.m. led by Robbie Ellis, former WFMT Chicago radio host and producer and soon to be general manager of the NSO.

The orchestra said those looking to receive a 20 percent discount (five concerts for the price of four) can do so until Sept. 30 on season subscription tickets. Concert tickets can be purchased on the NSO website, www.northbrooksymphony.org, or by calling the ticket office at 847-272-0755. Group discounts are available. All children between the ages of 6 and 17 receive complimentary tickets when accompanied by a paying adult.
