Tamara Raczkiewycz recounted the night to WLS, explaining how her daughter’s 18th birthday party was happening on the eighth floor, one story above where the shooting occurred.

"I went to get the girls some dinner, dropped it off in their room, went to my room, started eating. All of a sudden, I hear shouting in the hall," Raczkiewycz told the outlet. "I see that it's out towards the balcony. I go look. I see shots. I hear yelling. I see people running. First thing I do is run back towards their room and tell them lock the door. 'Do not open the door till it's me.'"

The hotel remained on lockdown overnight, according to WLS.
