Man Accidentally Shoots Self While Driving Near Shops At Oak Brook: Police

OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL — A man was taken to the hospital Monday after he accidentally shot himself while driving in a busy commercial area of Oakbrook Terrace, according to police.

The incident occurred about 1:20 p.m. on 22nd Street east of Midwest Road, near the Shops at Oak Brook, police said. The man exited a vehicle bleeding profusely from a single gunshot wound to the leg, according to Oakbrook Terrace police.

The injured person, a FOID and Illinois concealed carry license holder, had accidentally discharged his gun when he tried to holster it while driving, police said. He received first aid from officers and was transported to a nearby hospital, according to police.

A stretch of 22nd Street was closed for about an hour following the incident, Oak Brook police tweeted Monday.
