McDonald's Brings Its Global Cuisine To New Headquarters

Think you can't have an arugula pasta salad at McDonald's? Think again.

OAK BROOK, IL — Imagine walking into a McDonald's and being able to ditch the cheeseburger and fries to order a plate of fries loaded with bacon and cheese or a pasta salad tossed with arugula, roasted tomatoes and mozzarella. That's what customers can get starting Tuesday when they walk into the McDonald's restaurant at the company's new headquarters ahead of its upcoming opening in Chicago's West Loop.

Customers can start their day at the new restaurant's barista station, which offers fresh brewed Australian-style McCafé coffees. A Latin American-inspired dessert station will serve up specialized regional and global desserts, the company said in a press release.

The globally inspired menu is set to feature a range of items that many McDonald's users in the U.S. may find as a welcome break from the restaurant's relatively unchanged American menu. The rotating selection includes:

  • Canadian Angus burger topped with bacon, slathered with smoky Angus sauce, and served on a poppyseed bun
  • Hong Kong-style spicy McChicken marinated and served on a sesame seed bun
  • "World Famous" Australian cheese and bacon fried topped with cheese and bacon bits
  • French "Mozza Salad," a pasta salad tossed with roasted tomatoes, mozzarella and arugula
  • French "Manhattan Salad," a mix of baby kale, romaine, cranberries and sliced apples
  • Brazilian McFlurry Prestigo: vanilla soft serve swirled with strawberry sauce and topped with chocolate-covered coconut

The new globally inspired McDonald's, owned by Chicago native Nick Karavites, spans 6,000 square feet inside the company's headquarters. Mobile orders, table service, and outdoor seating will also be some of the unique features of the new restaurant.

The McDonald's headquarters, currently located in Oak Brook, is set to move into the building with the new restaurant at 110 N. Carpenter St. later this spring.
