Szechuan Sauce Is Back; You Don't Have To Sell Your Car To Get It

After 20 years, McDonald's Szechuan sauce is returning to every restaurant in the U.S.

OAK BROOK, IL — McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce is back and this time the coveted sauce won’t be in short supply. The fast food giant will unleash 20 million packets of the storied Szechuan Sauce to all its U.S. restaurants Monday, February 26, more than 20 years after it hit —and then mysteriously dematerialized from— the market.

You read that right. After Monday you can get your hands on a packet of Szechuan sauce just by walking into any McDonald’s and making a purchase. You don’t have to camp out in front of the restaurant and you don’t have to fork over your life savings or get a second mortgage on your house to try to bid for the sauce on ebay.

After McDonald’s last Szechuan Sauce “relaunch” in October 2017 left many customers empty-handed after they waited in line for hours or traveled out of state, the company apologized and promised to right their logistical wrongs. They’re hoping this newest batch of Szechuan Sauce will do the job.

Ahead of the relaunch, a McDonald’s spokesperson told Patch, “We’re always listening to our customers and looking for ways bring them the flavors they crave.”

She added that the company also wanted to share the story behind what they’re calling the “Szechuan Sauce saga.” A three-part Szechuan Sauce podcast, which can be streamed on any major podcast platform, will delve into the sauce’s surge in popularity, the company’s October relaunch snafu, and other Szechuan sauce secrets.

Szechuan sauce will be available while supplies last, but considering there are 20 million bottles up for grabs, we’re hoping it’ll be around for awhile.

Patch recently spoke with a Downers Grove 8th-grader named Jack who wasn’t even born the last time Szechuan sauce graced the planet. He said he was pretty pumped about the Szechuan sauce and planned to wear his Rick and Morty Szechuan Sauce t-shirt to school.

“I’ve heard it’s pretty good,” Jack said in the understated way only someone who hasn’t been torturously deprived of Szechuan sauce for two decades could.
