Charges Pending For Woman With Knife Perched Above Gym Locker Room: PD

Midlothian PD said it took several hours to talk the woman down, as she refused to drop the knife. Non-lethal force was used to arrest her.

MIDLOTHIAN, IL — Charges are pending against a woman armed with a knife who hid above a gym locker room in Midlothian Wednesday morning.

Midlothian police were called to CFX, 14726 S. Cicero Avenue, for a report of a woman in the locker room armed with a knife and causing a disturbance, Midlothian police said.

Police on the scene interacted with the 31-year-old woman, who had positioned herself above the drop ceiling. After several hours, officers were able to talk her down, but she refused to drop the knife, police said.

"Officers deployed less lethal options and were able to safely take the female subject into custody," Chief Daniel Delaney said. "No injuries were sustained by the female subject or the officers."

The woman was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Midlothian police were assisted by Alsip, Oak Forest, Posen, Worth and Richton Park police.

"The officers were very professional and exhausted every option at their disposal to bring a safe ending to this incident," Delaney wrote.
