Shots Fired In Oak Forest Apartment, Man In Mental Health Crisis: PD

A man was taken into custody after firing shots inside an Oak Forest apartment Sunday evening, police said Monday.

OAK FOREST, IL — A man police believe to have been in a mental health crisis Sunday evening fired gunshots before safely being taken into custody and taken to an area hospital, police said Monday.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance with reports of someone yelling in the 15700 block of Lake Drive Sunday around 5 p.m., police said. Officers could hear a man yelling, followed by what they said were two gunshots.

Police communicating with the man checked for anyone with injuries, and found the man was uninjured and alone inside the unit.

Officers took the man into custody, and determined he was having a mental health crisis. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

The incident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon.
