Friendly Reminder: SW High And Kilbourn Rail Crossing Closes Wednesday For 10 Days
Metra will close the railroad crossing at Southwest Highway and Kilbourn Avenue to all traffic from May 14 to May 23.

OAK LAWN, IL – Here’s another friendly reminder that the Southwest Highway and Kilbourn Avenue rail crossing will be closed to traffic starting Wednesday, May 14 and reopening Friday, May 23.
If you use the rail crossing as a shortcut to avoid the 95th Street and Cicero Avenue intersection, you only have a few days to start figuring out an alternate route.
Metra is planning to replace the railroad crossing, including the removal and replacement of rails, ties, and ballast, as well as the installation of new signal cable. When the project is finished, motorists will also notice a smoother ride due to new concrete panels between the rails and new asphalt approaches. Metra and its partner railroads plan to replace 43 crossings at locations across the Chicago area in 2025.
