Honorary Street To Be Dedicated In Memory Of Richards Student Who Died In Hit-And-Run
An honorary street sign unveiling in memory of Amira Nairat will take place Saturday, June 21, at Richards High School.

OAK LAWN, IL — Amira Nairat was a sunny 15-year-old who loved school. She aspired to be a doctor, nurse or engineer. Amira loved photography, and her father would often drive her to downtown Chicago so she could take pictures of buildings. She was devoted to her younger siblings, helping them with their homework or offering fashion advice.
Although Amira was only a freshman, she had already gained the respect of Richards High School administrators and teachers.
“Amira was a quiet but kind student. She was so dedicated to her studies and the happiness of her classmates. While she was just a freshman, her teachers spent the entire day reflecting on her achievements and the value she added to our school,” then-Richards Principal Mike Jacobson said on the high school’s Facebook page. “The entire Bulldog community will feel this loss deeply.”

Other expected guests are Amira’s family, Chicago Ridge elected officials, and leaders from the Muslim community.
“CHSD 218’s ongoing commitment to safety guides every decision we make,” the district said in a written statement. “During the 2025-26 school year, local law enforcement will be present near school crosswalks to help ensure drivers follow speed limits. This measure reflects our continued focus on safety.”
