2 Arrested When Disassembled Vehicles Found At Bridgeview Storage Facility: Police

Bridgeview police said they received a tip of a possible illegal chop shop at Public Storage on Harlem.

BRIDGEVIEW, IL — Two people are in custody and a third is under investigation after Bridgeview police busted up an illegal chop chip at 10024 S. Harlem Ave. Charges are under review.

The police raid took place early Monday morning at a Public Storage location when Bridgeview police responded to a call of suspicious activity at the storage facility.

Among stolen items recovered were three stolen vehicles in different stages of disassembly; five engines with attached transmissions, and numerous auto part components. The items were recovered from five different storage units.

“Upon arrival we encountered several individuals who were taken into custody,” Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha said in a news release.

Mancha said the Bridgeview Police Department coordinated the raid with the Illinois Statewide Auto Theft Task Force and the Southwest Major Case Unit (Palos Heights, Palos Hills, Hickory Hills, Summit, Crestwood, Burbank and Summit PDs), which provided additional investigative assistance taking photos, attempting to ID all parts, and inventory all parts.

Mancha said the investigation is ongoing.

“The police officers and investigators have done a great job,” Mancha said. “But without that individual calling it in, we may not have come across this. So a big thank you to them.”
