OAK LAWN, IL — People who see senior Haley Meskill in the hallway know her as a quiet and respectful student, but her teammates on the Oak Lawn Community High School girls tennis team know her as a leader and as one who pushes them to be their best on the court. In the first meet of the season, Meskill used this leadership and her doubles’ partner Hannah Leanos to dominate their opponent from Morton at number-one doubles, 6-1, 6-0.

However, it is her leadership and commitment to the team that impresses OLCHS head coach Dan Doyle most.

“Haley is definitely one of the leaders on a tennis team blessed with a few leader-personalities on it,” Doyle said. “It was obvious from the first day of practice that Haley had put in time on her own initiative to improve her tennis game. It’s early in the season, but her ground strokes and net play are proving her to be a formidable player.

“She not only pushes herself, as witnessed by her always leading the pack in drills, but she pushes the team to be its best as well. Her concern is for the team and not just for herself.”

The Spartans are looking for big things from Meskill this year.
