K9 Storm Sniffs Out 60 Kilos Of Cocaine And Bulk Cash In Large-Scale DEA Drug Seizure

The recovered kilos of cocaine recovered from a luxury SUV in unincorporated Will County had a $1 million street value

CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — An exterior sniff by a Chicago Ridge police K9 uncovered dozens of kilos of cocaine and a quantity of bulk U.S. currency Wednesday evening in a significant DEA drug investigation in unincorporated Will County.

At the request of a Drug Enforcement Administration task force, Chicago Ridge Police Officer Brendan A’Hearn and his K9 partner, Storm, were called into action to a location in unincorporated Will County. DEA agents were conducting an investigation involving a luxury SUV suspected of carrying bulk illegal drugs.

K9 Storm put his nose to work, giving a good, exterior sniff of the vehicle. The police K9 immediately alerted to the presence of narcotics, police said. DEA agents searched the vehicle, recovering approximately 60 kilos of cocaine and a load of cash. The wholesale value of the seized narcotics had an estimated street value of $1 million.

“This operation showcases the exceptional collaboration between federal and local law enforcement, as well as the vital role K9 teams play in combating drug trafficking,” said Chief Jim Jarolimek, of the Chicago Ridge Police Department. “We are proud of the continued efforts of our officers and K9 Storm in helping keep our communities safe.”

The investigation is ongoing and being led by the DEA. No further details are available at this time.
