Street Fighting Men Told To Stay Away from Each Other

Six men seen fighting in the 8700 block of S. McVicker Ave. tell police two different stories on what started the fight.

A woman called 911 to report several men ranging 18 to 32 in age, brawling in the 8700 block of South McVicker Avenue around 8 p.m. Aug. 21.

When police arrived, they found five men fighting in the street. A sixth man had already split. One of the men involved told police that he and his two cousins were standing next to a parked car, when a group of men came over and began yelling at them.

The man said one of the guys in the other group took a swing and hit him in the face, which made everyone else fight.

spoke with one of the three men in the second group, according to the report. The second man said that he and his friends were sitting in his driveway drinking, when the other group came on to his driveway yelling. He also told police that he thought he saw one of the men holding a black object, possibly a crowbar, swinging at the group on the driveway.

The second man said he ducked the black object and punched the man swinging it in the face. Cops searched both parties’ cars and found a “dancing stick.” The report said that police didn’t believe the dancing stick could cause harm.
