2 Officers, 1 Firefighter Suffer Minor Injuries In Orland Park Fire

ORLAND PARK, IL — Two police officers and one firefighter were taken to the hospital Tuesday night after a fire broke out on Legend Lane, fire officials said.

According to the Orland Park Fire District, the fire occurred at 8220 Legend Lane Tuesday at around 7:30 p.m. in the home's utility room.

The police officers were treated and released for minor smoke inhalation and the firefighter was treated for a minor burn.

"This is a reminder of the dangers all first responders face when responding to emergency calls to help out citizens," Orland Fire Protection District Chief Michael Schofield said in a press release. "They risked their lives to ensure that the residents were safe and they do that every day and every time they respond to an emergency call."

All three emergency personnel were taken to Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital.

One of the homeowners told firefighters he couldn't find his wife but after a search of the house, emergency personnel found her in the backyard.

No other injuries were reported in the fire. The home is uninhabitable, according to officials, but the couple has family to stay with while the cause of the fire is being investigated.
