2 Smith Crossing Residents Test Positive For Coronavirus
Both residents of the Orland Park retirement community who have tested positive for the coronavirus are in the facility's memory care wing.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Two residents of the Smith Crossing senior living community in Orland Park have tested positive for the new coronavirus, a letter Smith Crossing Executive Director Amanda Mauceri sent to families this week indicates. Both residents are in the retirement community's memory care wing and have been moved to a designated area for those who have contracted the coronavirus.
The other 13 residents of Smith Crossing's memory care wing have tested negative for the coronavirus, Mauceri said.

The first resident to test positive was in the hospital a week ago "for a reason other than the virus," Mauceri's letter indicates. But while at the hospital, the resident was tested and a confirmed positive result was made after the resident returned to Smith Crossing.
The second positive result came while the other 14 memory care residents were tested earlier this week.

A third Smith Crossing resident, this one from the independent living section of the facility, tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this month at the hospital and is now symptom-free and recovering at another care center.
Rooms in the designated area for coronavirus patients at Smith Crossing are isolated, and assigned nurses wear full personal protective equipment including gowns, masks, goggles and face masks. All gear is discarded once the nurse leaves the room, Mauceri said.
