2nd Annual Crosstown Classic Run for A Cause Racing for Home

Wrigley to Rate, Local Teens Run to End Homelessness Student-led Crosstown Classic Run fundraiser

A spirited mix of baseball, community, and teen leadership hits the streets of Chicago once again as the Carl Sandburg High School Cross Country team laces up for the second annual Crosstown Classic Run for a Cause, a student-led fundraiser supporting BEDS Plus, a nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness across the southwest suburbs.

What began in 2024 as a summer challenge by then-junior Jackson Canellis is growing into a team tradition, blending athletics and advocacy. This year, the team of runners will again cover 12 miles from Wrigley Field to Rate Field, sporting either Cubs or Sox jerseys, depending on which team raises the most money.

“That’s why I launched the run last summer, I saw a way to turn something I love into real impact” says Canellis, now a senior. “This year, we’re scaling it up with a goal to help even more families and kids get back on their feet.”
