How do you know the local hero?
He is my father
What does the local hero do?
He’s a retired roofing contractor.
Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?
My dad is 91 1/2 years old and he is my hero. He is a proud Marine that served in the United States and was in the Korean War. When he returned from the service he married his high school sweetheart, my mother. They raised my three older sisters, younger brother and myself to the best of his ability. He sent all of us to college and developed a reputable roofing company that is still going strong.
We lost my little brother back in 1986 in a tragic accident. His faith and love for his family sustained him. He built 2 houses, one in Palos Heights and one in Chesterton, Indiana.
He and my mother moved to Summerfield, Florida after he retired. He picked up a part-time job at the country club where they lived. He worked there many years and was very involved with his golfing buddies and church.
I can remember him volunteering for Meals on Wheels for many years while living.
I have to say, his is one of the kindest, strongest, loyal, trustworthy, selfless and funny man I have ever met.
He taught us how important faith, family and character is.
His love for baseball has taught me so much. His compassion for others never ceases to amaze me. Even after losing my mother his zeal for life and kind-hearted way has not wavered.
These are only a few of the reasons that he is a hero. His attitude of once a Marine, always a Marine has always made me proud of him. Even if he is not chosen, he will always be “My Hero”!
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?
Clem Davis is a true man of character and integrity. He is very patriotic and proud of the fact that he enrolled in the Marine at the age of 16 (Shhh!!). He was an avid golfer and baseball player. Hard working is an understatement. His love for others and generosity is beyond comprehension.
Thank you for all you do, Clem Davis!
