Apartment Fire Blazes Through Multiple Units In Orland

ORLAND PARK, IL — A fire broke out in an apartment complex, blazing through multiple buildings, and causing smoke damage throughout the three-story, 12 unit apartment building on Thursday afternoon, according to the Orland Fire Protection District (OFPD).

The OFPD responded to a fire at an apartment building in the 9300 block of Hunter Drive. A fire alarm had been called in for 9335 Hunter Drive, and then another call to Orland Central Dispatch reported a fire in a closet at the adjacent 9333 Hunter Drive apartment.

The fire alarm in 9335 Hunter Drive also covers 9333 Hunter Drive, according to OFPD.

No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the department.

The department said engine 4 arrived to find smoke and fire on the first floor of the 12 unit apartment building before calling for extra companies to fight the full-alarm fire. Firefighters contained the fire and searched all units in both apartments, the department said.

The fire is still under investigation by the Orland Fire Protection District, Orland Hills Police and the State Fire Marshall's Office. The fire district is working with building management to help any displaced residents, according to the department.

Other fire departments that assisted in extinguishing the flames included Tinley Park, Palos, Crestwood, Homer, Northwest Homer, Frankfort, Lemont, Matteson, Mokena, New Lenox, North Palos, Palos Heights and Oak Forest.
