ORLAND HILLS, IL — A brush fire in Orland Hills Wednesday was accidental and caused by machinery, police said.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Village of Orland Hills maintenance worker was performing routine maintenance behind the Recreation Center, 16553 Haven Ave, and outside of the wetlands when his machine inadvertently caused the vegetation to catch fire, police said. Thick black smoke billowed from the area.

The Orland Fire Department was contacted and immediately dispatched to the scene. They, along with several other neighboring departments, quickly responded and moved to contain the fire within the wetlands, police said.
