Chicago Man In Custody After Road Rage Shooting In Orland Hills
One man is in jail after a road rage shooting Sunday night in Orland Hills.
ORLAND HILLS, IL — A Chicago man is in custody after a road-rage shooting Sunday night in Orland Hills. Police arrested Charles Dickerson, 29, of Chicago because he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Police say he likely wasn't the shooter and the charges were not related to Sunday night's incident.
According to Police Chief Thomas Scully, Dickerson and a driver in a red car appeared to be chasing each other at about 11:20 p.m. near 159th Street and Orlan Brook Drive. They chased each other toward 94th Avenue and went to 160th Street, where the driver of the red car shot at Dickerson. Both drove off in opposite directions. Seven 9mm bullet casings were later found at the scene.
A witness who called from a gas station in Tinley Park offered police dash cam video of the incident, police said, which led them to Dickerson. After he fled, Dickerson hit a curb, and the impact blew out the tires of his Kia, leaving him stranded.

He at first told officers that he was staying at a nearby hotel and that he was involved in an altercation with people he knew, but that was not true, Scully said. Dickerson declined to cooperate with police. No firearm was found in the car, Scully said, but police did find a BB gun in the back seat. The driver in the red car was likely the shooter as part of a road rage incident, he added.
Police arrested Dickerson because of the outstanding warrant, and he is being held in Cook County Jail on $20,000 bond related to DUI charges, a Cook County jail spokeswoman said.

Police do not have more information about the red car or its driver, but an investigation is underway, Scully said.
"Obviously for us, this is a pretty isolated incident. We don't normally have crimes in this town and we're fortunate for that," Scully said.
