District 135 To Return To In-Person Instruction This October
The district announced a plan for students to return to classrooms four days a week and remotely on Wednesdays.
ORLAND PARK, IL — At a Sept. 23 special Board of Education meeting, Orland School District 135 updated its Return to School Plan.
This plan gives parents the choice to keep their child in remote learning or to send them back to school four days a week, with remote learning on Wednesdays, according to the district. From Oct. 26 - Nov. 5, the district will implement a transition plan for students electing in-person learning, with in-person learning going in effect Nov.6, according to the district.
The district said in order to prepare for the return to in-person learning, Oct. 22 - 23 will be non-attendance days for all students.

Parents are asked to complete the commitment form, selecting which method of teaching their child will follow, by 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 28.
Students will adhere to the following schedules depending on the one parents select:

Kindergarten - 5th Grade In-Person Students: Students will attend school four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) from 8:00 a.m. - Noon, according to the district.
- Schedule:
8:00 a.m. - Noon In-person.
Noon - 1:00 p.m. Travel and lunch.
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Prerecorded Specials (flexible).
1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Live, remote instruction for additional support, related services; social-emotional learning (SEL)
Remote for all every Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Remote Students: Remote students will attend school with other students participating remotely or they will participate via Live Stream to a classroom, according to the district.
- Schedule:
8:00 a.m. - Noon Full remote or live stream in the classroom for instruction.
Noon - 1:00 p.m. Lunch and break.
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Prerecorded Specials (flexible).
1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Live, remote instruction for additional support, related services; social emotional learning (SEL).
Remote for all every Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
3rd - 5th Grade Remote Students: Remote students will attend school via Live Stream to a classroom. Students who live stream will use their iPad to join the teacher and class and receive their instruction through Zoom, according to the district.

8:00 a.m. - Noon Full remote or live stream in the classroom for instruction.
Noon - 1:00 p.m. Lunch and break.
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Prerecorded Specials (flexible).
1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Live, remote instruction for additional support, related services; social-emotional learning (SEL).
Remote for all every Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
For grades 6-8, the district will implement a hybrid (A/B) schedule two days a week with Full Remote Wednesdays. Groupings will be based on last name. Group A will attend school on Mondays and Thursdays. Group B will attend school on Tuesdays and Fridays. Students will live stream into classrooms on their at-home days, according to the district.
Junior high hybrid schedule:
8:32 a.m.- 12:45 p.m. Period 1 - 8
12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. Travel home and lunch
1:45 p.m. - 2:15 pm. Zero Hour - Live, full remote instruction.
2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. Scheduled live, remote support for students.
Remote for all every Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Schedules will be provided to students, according to the district.
Junior high remote schedule:
8:32 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Students live stream to the teacher and classroom via Zoom.
12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. Lunch and break.
1:45 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. Zero hour, live, full remote.
2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. Scheduled live, remote support for students
Remote for all every Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Schedules will be provided to students, according to the district.
According to the district, eligible families will be asked to choose a transportation option when filling out the Commitment Form. Bus transportation is available for eligible students or paid riders. A paid rider option will be available for $244, round-trip service for the remainder of the school year. Students will be provided a snack break during the day. Water fountains will be off during the school day.
When a staff or student tests positive for COVID-19, based on the timing, the school may be closed the following day for enhanced cleaning and contract tracing. Individuals identified as close contact will be required to quarantine. All classes will be conducted remotely when a building is closed. It is expected that school will resume in-person learning the day following closure. Reopening information will be communicated accordingly, according to the district.
