Families Invited To Volunteer At Bridge Teen Center's MLK Service Day

The volunteers will help process donations to the org's thrift store. The effort honors Dr. King's legacy of service. Signup required.

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Bridge Teen Center in Orland Park is seeking families and members of the community to volunteer during their annual Martin Luther King Family Service Project. The event will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20 from 2 to 4 p.m., at their center located at 15555 S. 71st Court in Orland Park.

Volunteers will help process donations at their sister organization, The Bridge Thrift Store, located adjacent to the teen center. Families and members of the community will serve together to honor Dr. King’s legacy of service while supporting the free programs and events offered at The Bridge Teen Center.

A number of businesses and organizations in the community will be volunteering at the event including: Central Credit Union of Illinois, Starbucks, Crate & Barrel, and Gamma Phi Delta Sorority. In addition to providing a fun team building experience for businesses and organizations, families will create memories together while making an impact at a local organization that has served over 13,500+ suburban teens since 2010.

"Dr. King had the gift of rallying people behind important issues, and there’s no better way to honor his legacy than by engaging entire families in an impactful local service project," said Taylor Scanlan, Groups Coordinator at The Bridge Thrift Store. "Plus, volunteering as a family when there is no school is a great way to spend quality time together."

All family members age 10 and older are welcome to volunteer, including parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family and/or friends. Advance sign-up is required and space is limited. The deadline to sign up is Friday, January 17 by 4 p.m. Sign up at thebridgeteencenter.org or by calling (708)532-0500.

The Bridge Teen Center is a nationally-recognized nonprofit community center that is designed around the needs and interests of teens in the suburbs, providing free after-school programs and a safe environment for Friday night entertainment. Over 13,500+ different students from 128 different communities have been served by The Bridge since 2010.
