Firefighter Suffers Dehydration After Battling Orland Townhome Fire: Officials

The fire happened around 11 p.m. Monday in the 13900 block of Berkhansted Court.

ORLAND PARK, IL — A firefighter suffered from dehydration after battling a fire at a townhouse building late Monday night, fire officials said.

Orland Fire Protection District crews were called at 11 p.m. to the fire at the 13900 block of Berkhansted Court in Orland Park.

The firefighter was treated at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospita, where he was released early this morning in good condition.

The residents of the impacted unit were not home, and all other residents in the neighboring and attached townhomes safely exited their buildings. No civilian residents were injured.

Firefighters could see light smoke coming from the side of the structure, an attached row of townhomes. The fire caused some damage to a neighboring, attached unit. The fire was contained mostly to the one apartment unit, with some burnt rafters in the attic of the neighboring unit.

Crews cleared the units and extinguished the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
