The Orland Park Public Library invites community members to take part in a creative and heartwarming project this fall to make a Granny Square Community Blanket. This initiative encourages patrons to crochet 5”x5” granny squares that will be stitched together to form one large community blanket, symbolizing unity and togetherness.

“Let's stitch together!” said Communications Manager Jackie Boyd. “Each granny square represents a unique contribution to a larger work of art, showing what we can create when our community comes together.”

Participants are encouraged to donate their crocheted granny squares now through November 24 at the library’s Adult Services Desk. Each 5”x5” square donated earns the contributor a drawing ticket for a chance to win the completed community blanket.

Donation Guidelines:

  • Squares must measure 5”x5” and may be any color or pattern.
  • All squares should be made and stored in an allergy-friendly (smoke- and dander-free) environment.
  • Donations are accepted September 2 through November 24 at the Adult Services Desk.
  • While the library will make every effort to include all donated squares, inclusion in the final blanket cannot be guaranteed depending on the number received.

This cozy community project invites crocheters of all skill levels to take part, connect, and celebrate the art of making something beautiful together.
