Library Offers Two Engaging Book Discussions in July

New readers are welcomed to library book discussions.

Orland Park Public Library invites readers to join one, or both, of its dynamic book discussions this July for lively in-person conversations that explore a powerful memoir or a compelling fiction book.

The Tuesday Night Book Club will meet on Tuesday, July 8 at 7 p.m. to discuss How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair, a moving memoir that traces the author’s escape from a strict Rastafarian upbringing and her journey toward finding her voice as a poet. This book discussion meets every second Tuesday of the month and features groundbreaking works that challenge and redefine today’s literary landscape. Reference Librarian Helen Kametas runs the Tuesday Night Book Club.

“Book discussions offer a great opportunity to dive into worlds you might not have otherwise,” said Kametas. “The Tuesday Night Book Club is great because not only do I pick the reads, but I also love to get suggestions from patrons. It's more of an interactive experience that has proven to be so engaging. There's no better way to get to know your community than to know what they're reading.”

Later in the month, the A Novel Morning Book Club will meet on Monday, July 28 at 10 a.m. to discuss Mother-Daughter Murder Night by Nina Simon, a witty and heartfelt mystery featuring three generations of amateur sleuths navigating family ties and small-town secrets. This group welcomes new members each month.

Copies of both books are available at the library’s Adult Services Desk starting about a month in advance. Ebooks and e-audiobooks can also be found through OverDrive/Libby and Hoopla.
