ORLAND PARK, IL — A 20-year-old man is accused of trying to rob a Dunkin Donuts in Orland Park while he was out on bond for a previous weapons charge, officials said.

Jareed Johnson, from Chicago, is facing charges of attempted armed robbery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after police said he and another man threatened a Dunkin Donuts cashier with a handgun on Oct. 22.

According to police, Johnson and another man went into the store at 15615 Harlem Avenue and feigned making a purchase. As one man was at the register, the second one walked around the counter and pointed a handgun at the cashier. The other man then pulled out a gun and walked to the drive-thru window in an attempt to steal the drive-thru cash register, police said.

While the man was pointing his gun in the direction of the drive-thru, he fired into the wall. Officials said he seemed to do this on accident because it startled both men and they fled the scene without taking any money. Security footage from the incident showed both men getting into a grey SUV and speeding away.

After issuing an alert about the robbery, Orland Park police said they learned the same two men were wanted in connection with two other armed robberies in Oak Forest and South Holland.

Three days later, Chicago police found the grey SUV within the city and were eventually able to identify one of the men as Johnson.

Police arrested Johnson Wednesday with a loaded weapon on him, according to officials. He was taken to court where Judge Kerry Kennedy issued two $100,000 bonds for each new charge. Johnson would be required to pay $20,000 to be released before trial.

Kennedy also revoked Johnson's current bond which was pending trial for an unrelated aggravated unlawful use of a weapon charge.
