Man Broke Into Orland Bowl ATM, Arrested With $40,000 Cash: OPPD

According to police, the Chicago man was arrested in connection to a similar burglary, also using a crow bar, in Champaign on May 16.

ORLAND PARK, IL — A Chicago man was arrested with $40,000 in cash on him after police responded to a burglar alarm at Orland Bowl Thursday, officers said.

According to police, 37-year-old Frederick Thomas was seen pulling out of the parking lot at Orland Bowl shortly after the first officer showed up to the 8601 159th Street location. The officer pulled Thomas over while other officers checked the business.

A press release from Orland Park police said the back glass door to the bowling alley had been smashed out and the ATM inside appeared to be broken into.

After walking around Thomas's car, officers said they could see "several crow bars and gloves" through Thomas's car window. Police searched the vehicle and found two crow bars, two pairs of gloves, a grey metal box and a bag containing $40,000 in cash.

Later surveillance footage showed the man using a crow bar to pry open the ATM and remove the grey metal cash box inside.

According to court records, Thomas is out on bond in connection to a May 16 burglary of a gambling parlor where police said the man used a crow bar to try and pry the front of an ATM off.

Thomas is facing charges of commercial burglary and theft, both felonies. On Friday, he was issued a D bond of $5,000. He will have to pay $500 in order to be released pending trial.
