Man Charged With Reckless Homicide In Fatal Crash: Police

The Orland Park Police Department said an investigation into a fatal crash in January revealed the driver was going 63 mph on snow and ice.

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Orland Park Police Department's Traffic and Safety unit completed an extensive and thorough investigation of a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place on Jan. 23, according to a news release from the department.

The incident occurred at the intersection of 151st St. and Harlem Ave., according to police. Police said the investigation revealed the driver of a GMC Yukon Denali named Ahmad E. Alzobi was driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone. The road was covered with ice, snow and water, according to police.

According to police, Alzobi ran a red light, hitting another vehicle, injuring himself and two others and killing 5-year-old Evelyn Thomas, of Orland Park.

On Sept. 17, Alzobi was arrested and charged with reckless homicide (Class 3 felony), Aggravated Reckless Driving (Class 4 felony) and no valid insurance bodily injury (Class A misdemeanor), according to police.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
