Michael Schofield Will Sign With Carolina Panthers: Report

The NFL offensive lineman from Orland Park has found a new team and is expected to sign a one-year deal.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Michael Schofield, the NFL offensive lineman from Orland Park and Carl Sandburg High School, has a new team. He will sign a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler reported on Twitter Thursday. Schofield spent the last three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers after his first three in the NFL were with the Denver Broncos.

Schofield's new team, the Panthers, is the one the Broncos beat in Super Bowl L following the 2015 NFL season and made the Sandburg alum an NFL champion. He will most likely begin the 2020 season as the team's starting left guard, according to a USA Today "Panthers Wire" report.

The Panthers went 5-11 in 2019 and missed the playoffs.

Schofield played and started all 16 games for the Chargers in both 2018 and 2019. Between playing at Sandburg and in the NFL, he played college football at the University of Michigan.

His NFL career also includes one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, his ProFootballReference.com page indicates. Terms of his new deal with the Panthers have not been announced.

Schofield is the son of Michael Schofield Sr., the chief of the Orland Fire Protection District.
