Olympian Kendall Coyne Schofield Honored In Orland Park

The Orland Park native and 3-time Olympian was honored at a board meeting where March 21st was designated as Kendall Coyne Schofield Day.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Orland Park native and Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne Schofield was honored with a proclamation at the village's board meeting Monday night.

Schofield, who went to Carl Sandburg High School and began playing hockey at the Arctic Ice Irena in Orland Park, has won one gold medal and two silver medals during her time on the U.S. Women's Hockey team.

Mayor Keith Pekau read the resolution, which declared March 21st as "Kendall Coyne Schofield Day" in Orland Park.

Coyne Schofield remained in Illinois during her hockey career, attending Northeastern University where she was awarded as the top female college ice hockey player in the U.S.

The proclamation states the 29-year-old works as a mentor for the Chicago Blackhawks to help teach young people about the sport she loves.

"Today we celebrate Kendall for her part in bringing home the silver medal from the 2022 Winter Olympics," Pekau read. "But as you see Kendall is so much more, she is successfully following her dreams and is an exceptional role model and an inspiration to every young athlete in our community."

In addition to her work as a mentor, Coyne Schofield is a board member on the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association, co-owns a women's soccer team and is working on a book about her life.
