Orland Park To Host Flexible Turkey Trot Amid COVID-19

The 32nd annual event will be a bit different this year for those who want to participate from a distance.

ORLAND PARK, IL — The 32nd Annual Turkey Trot event in Orland Park is back in 2020, amid the OCVID-29 pandemic. The run will look a bit different this year and has a limited capacity, according to the Village of Orland Park.

The 2.5-mile timed race travels through the sidewalks, paths and wooded areas of town near the Village Hall. Due to COVID-19, modifications are in place to ensure the safety of participants.

The top three finishers in each of the 14 age groups receive the coveted turkey trophy and the top overall male and female finishers receive a frozen turkey, according to the village. Due to the race format, top finishers will be finalized after the last heat.

There is a virtual race option for those who do not wish to attend in person. "Can’t make it on Nov. 22? Want more social distance? Sign up for our virtual race option! Self-time and run our course any day starting Nov. 23- 26," the village said.

Virtual runners are not eligible for top finisher awards and the course map will be included in runner's race packet, according to the village.

All participants — in-person and virtual— receive a long-sleeved dri-fit race shirt, race packet and are entered into the post-race raffle. Registration ended on Nov. 14, but same day registration is available if space is still open. This event is non-refundable, according to the village.

The pre-race packet pick-up is taking place now to Nov. 21 at the Human Race, 15148 S. LaGrange Road. Race packets can also be picked up race-day at the Recreation Tent. After Nov. 21, virtual race runner’s packets will be available at the Sportsplex, 11351 W. 159th St.
