Orland Park Man Made Up Robbery At Gas Station: Police

Yacub S. Ibrahim, 41, of Orland Park, has been charged after falsely reporting that two men robbed him outside of a Circle K in Orland.

ORLAND PARK, IL — An Orland Park man with a history of arrests for making false 911 calls has been charged after reporting he was robbed by two black men in an incident that did not happen, Orland Park police said.

Yacub S. Ibrahim, 41, of 17505 Brook Crossing Drive in Orland Park, was charged in March with felony disorderly conduct after he reported an armed robbery that he said happened outside of Circle K at 17940 Wolf Road, The Orland Park Prairie reported. Police, however, said the event did not happen.

Ibrahim claimed that he was punched in the stomach by two black men, one of whom carried a knife. The other, Ibrahim claimed, implied he had a gun. Ibrahim told police they took his wallet and fled in a black sedan that was seen on LaGrange Road. However, the newspaper reported, an employee told the police that there was no robbery. The person reported that a man known to cause problems at the store had been there but left after she declined to give him cigarettes.

Orland police then traced the man to another gas station and coffee shop. At a gas station at 11200 183rd Place, an employee reported that a man who causes problems there, too, had bought cigarettes and left. Video from the gas station's security camera caught Ibrahim's image, and police recognized him as a man who had been arrest in the past for making false 911 calls. The employee tipped off police that the man said he was headed to a Starbucks on Wolf Road, and police found him on the way there.

After they picked him up, Ibrahim told police about the robbery incident and said it happened outside of the Circle K., the newspaper reported. However, police said Ibrahim had his driver's license and credit and debit cards -- the items he reported stolen -- on him. Video showed he left without any trouble, the newspaper reported.
