Orland Park Offers Tips To Stay Safe Ahead Of Heat Wave

ORLAND PARK, IL — Orland Park officials are urging residents to check on elderly and disabled family, friends and neighbors to make sure they’re safe and have access to air conditioning this week.

The National Weather Service is predicting that temperatures will near 100 degrees Thursday and last through Saturday — and with the heat index thrown in, it could feel as hot as 110 degrees in most areas.

The Orland Park Police Station, at 15100 South Ravinia Avenue, is the village’s primary cooling center and is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The high temperature combined with ample sunshine and oppressive humidity will lead to potentially hazardous conditions especially for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are two of the biggest concerns with excessive temperatures. High temperatures and humidity can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. The risk is higher for the elderly or those with preexisting health conditions. Health officials urge people to limit strenuous outdoor activities and wear loose fitting clothing.
