Orland Park Pioneer Super Lightweights Eye Second Super Bowl Title

The local football team made up of players between the ages of 6 and 8 will face the Homer Glen Stallions in Sunday's championship game.

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Orland Park Pioneer football program will attempt to make some history this weekend when it plays for its second Super Bowl championship this year.

The program’s Super Lightweight team advanced to Sunday’s Super Bowl at St. Xavier University at 10 a.m. By advancing to the championship game, the team became the first in Orland Park Pioneer history to make two Super Bowl appearances in a single season.

The weekend league championship game takes place after the Super Lightweight team posted a 9-1 record this season and moved through the single-elimination playoffs to advance to Sunday’s Super Bowl game against the Homer Glen Stallions.

Orland Park Pioneer’s Super Lightweights ­­— which is a combination of players between the ages of 6-8 — won the Super Bowl for the league’s Wednesday Night Division in October after going 7-0 in mid-week play this season.

The Pioneer Lightweights are coached by head coach Allan Krokos and assistants Pat Richardson, Adam Sutter, Ray Morandi, Matt Wilkinson, Chuck Kakos, and Mark Garrity.
