Orland Park Police Thwart Burglary In Progress
Nicholas Roberto and Paul Alvarez tried to run from Orland cops who caught them burglarizing a garage -- but they couldn't get away.
ORLAND PARK, IL — Two men are in custody Friday after Orland Park police stopped a burglary in progress and caught the suspects after they ran from the scene.
Paul Alvarez, 49, and Nicholas Roberto, 29, both of Chicago, were arrested Friday morning and charged with burglary, drug and other offenses, police said.
Sergeant Wayne Lee said that officers arrived at Vail Court and Arbor Drive at about 5:30 a.m. after someone reported a burglary in progress. They found two men inside of a garage that was attached to a house in the area. They had forced the side door open, police said.

Roberto ran after he saw police and Alvarez pushed an officer out of the way as he ran. The officer Alvarez pushed caught him and found cocaine in his sock after searching him.
Police officers then scoured the area and found Roberto hiding. They did not say where he was.

One officer was hurt during the apprehension of Alvarez.
Alvarez has been charged with felony residential burglary, felony aggravated battery to a police officer and felony possession of a controlled substance.
Roberto has been charged with felony residential burglary, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer.
Both are scheduled to appear at the Cook County Criminal Court Building in Chicago for a bond hearing on Saturday, May 18.
