I-94 Shooting: Orland Park Woman, 67, Dies

The shooting happened on the southbound side of the interstate near 63rd Street Tuesday, according to Illinois State Police.

ORLAND PARK, IL — An Orland Park woman has died after being struck by a bullet on the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Illinois State Police. Another woman was injured, according to reports.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, state police said troopers responded to the area of southbound I-94 and 63rd Street after receiving reports of an expressway shooting. One person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and later died, according to police.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 67-year-old Denise Huguelet of Orland Park.

State police said an overhead search was conducted, leading to the discovery of a car fleeing at a high rate speed. After a chase, police said two people were taken into custody, and a gun was recovered.

Around 11:15 p.m., police closed southbound lanes near 63rd Street on the interstate while they investigated. All lanes later reopened around 2:30 a.m. The details of the investigation are still developing, and no further information is available at this time, police said.

Huguelet was an Evergreen Park School District 124 teacher for over two decades.

"Our Evergreen Park family mourns the loss of Denise Huguelet," the school district tweeted Wednesday morning. "Mrs. Huguelet worked in the district for 24 years as a special education teacher at CMS. Her passion for students and her dedication to the community showed in all aspects of her work."
