Orland Police Ramp Up DUI, Seat Belt Patrols For St. Patrick's Day
Orland Park police will step up traffic safety patrols for St. Patrick's Day.
ORLAND PARK, IL â Orland Park police will ramp up traffic safety efforts for the days leading up to and including St. Patrick's Day, the department said Thursday.
To remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving and to help keep streets safe, Orland police are teaming up with the Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation in the campaign.
âWith St. Patrickâs Day falling on a Monday this year, we expect increased celebrations throughout the weekend prior,â said Orland Park Police Chief, Eric Rossi. âWe urge everyone to celebrate responsibly. Please plan ahead for a sober ride home before you leave the house â your safety and the safety of others depends on it.â

In addition to looking for alcohol- and cannabis-impaired drivers, police will step up seat belt enforcement, particularly at night when seat belt usage rates are lowest. Speeding, distracted driving and all traffic laws will be strictly enforced.
Whether attending a party, hosting friends or going out to a bar, police remind revelers to keep safety at the forefront of the day and night. When itâs time to leave, make sure a designated driver is sober. Remember that walking impaired can also be dangerous, so designate a sober friend to walk home with you. Designated drivers: Be alert for impaired walkers who may not obey street signs. Itâs not about luck, itâs about smart decisions.
