Orland Township Designates Cooling Center at the Orland Township Building
"Our community is facing extreme heat, and it's crucial we support those who may be struggling with the impacts," stated Supervisor O'Grady.

Orland Park, IL (June 23, 2025) – In response to the current excessive heat conditions impacting the region, Orland Township is proud to announce that the Orland Township Building, located at 14807 S. Ravinia Avenue in Orland Park, will serve as a designated cooling center for residents in need. This facility will be open during regular business hours, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, providing a safe and comfortable environment for those seeking relief from the high temperatures and for residents who may not have air conditioning in their homes.

Together, we can look after one another and keep our community safe.”
The cooling center will be equipped with air conditioning, seating areas, and access to water to help residents stay hydrated and cool. In addition to utilizing the cooling center, here are some important tips for staying cool during this heatwave:

Tips for Staying Cool:
1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they can lead to dehydration.

2. Limit Outdoor Activities: Try to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day (usually between 10 AM and 4 PM). If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade and drink water regularly.
3. Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to help regulate body temperature.
4. Use Fans and Air Conditioning: If you have access to air conditioning, use it. Fans can also help circulate air, but be sure to use them safely.
5. Cool Showers or Baths: Taking a cool shower or bath can help lower your body temperature.

All Township residents are welcome to use the cooling center to avoid the dangers associated with extreme heat. For shelter from the heat outside of Township business hours, the Orland Park Police Station at 15100 S. Ravinia Avenue is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for residents as a cooling center.
