ORLAND PARK, IL — An Orland Park woman faces several charges after police allege she stole cash and jewelry from a resident of a senior living facility in Shorewood, according to a release.

Police were called July 7 to Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 North River Rd, to escort a caregiver from the premises. The caller told police that the woman—identified as Marlyn Villalobos—had potentially stolen items from an elderly resident, and had locked herself in a bathroom to evade police and dispose of the items.

Responding officers were escorted to the facility's women's bathroom, where they found Villalobos attempting to flush stolen items—specifically jewelry—down the toilet, police said. The jewelry was alleged to have been stolen from a 90-year-old resident of the facility.

Police were able to recover some of the items, and the staff and victim identified them. Villalobos was taken into custody.

While awaiting processing at the Shorewood Police Department, Villalobos requested on multiple occasions to use the bathroom, police said. There, police said she tried to flush cash that was also determined to be taken from the victim. The cash was recovered.

Villalobos was charged with financial exploitation of the elderly, residential burglary, burglary, theft, and obstructing a peace officer. She was taken to the Will County Jail, pending a pre-trial release hearing.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Barten told Shorewood Patch that Villalobos was not an employee of Timbers, rather, she was a contracted caregiver.
