More Than 100 Orland Teens Honored for Community Service

High school students from Orland Park and Orland Hills were recognized for putting in 100 hours or more of volunteer service this year.

Teens from and comprised a large number of those honored last week for their extensive community service.

More than 100 Orland teens received the Cook County Sheriff’s Office Youth Service Medal at a ceremony held at the UIC Pavilion. For the last 24 years, the honor has been given to Cook County students, who devote at least 100 hours to volunteer efforts within the last year.

Combined, the honorees logged more than 36,000 hours of community service, according to the sheriff’s office.

Speakers at the event included student Aaron Grudowski, who completed 200 hours of volunteer work with the .

City Year representative Kate Stucke spoke to those who attended about the impact of volunteering. Her organization focuses on steering students away from dropping out of school and back onto a successful path.
