'Public Works' Exhibit Offers Unique Look At Orland's Past

No one said "public works" was sexy, but a new exhibit uses it to show a unique view of Orland's past.

ORLAND PARK, IL — "Public works" is not the most exciting phrase one can utter, but when we can use it to peek back into the history of our communities, well, then it just might be kind of cool.

Orland's History Museum offers this look into the village's past with a new exhibit called "Serving Our Community: A History of Orland Park Police, Public Works and Fire."

It offers gems like the one on the Facebook post below. A black-and-white photos shows "Middle Street," which is now where 143rd Place turns into Union Avenue at the curve, complete with a horse and hitching posts, and some buildings that still remain.

The exhibit opens March 2 and runs through Aug. 24 at the Orland Park History Museum, 14415 South Beacon Avenue. Admission to the museum is free.
