ORLAND PARK, IL — A bat found in Orland Park has tested positive for rabies, Cook County officials said.
The bat was found in the 18000 block of Vivian Court on Aug. 14, and was determined to be rabid by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory, officials said.
If you think you may have been bitten by a bat, you are encouraged to contact your doctor.

Officials remind residents that residents should keep dogs, cats, and ferrets on a leash when outside their homes. Any pet that is not up-to-date on rabies vaccines should be inoculated immediately, officials remind.
Residents should not handle any bats, skunks, or other wild animals. If any bats or skunks are found downed on your property or roadway, call Cook County Animal and Rabies Control.
