Sandburg Grad Dan Feeney Selected by Los Angeles Chargers in NFL Draft

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Dan Feeney, a Carl Sandburg High School football product, was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the third round of the NFL Draft Friday night. The Chargers used the 71st pick overall and the seventh selection in the third round to pick Feeney, an offensive guard who played college football at Indiana University.

Feeney was with the Hoosiers for five seasons after graduating from Sandburg in 2012. His hometown is listed as Orland Park, Illinois.

"Get ready, baby! We are about to take L.A. to a whole other level," was Feeney's message to Chargers fans after his selection Friday night, according to the team's Twitter account.

Feeney is among the first players to be drafted by the Chargers in their return to Los Angeles. The team relocated to Tinseltown this year after more than a half-century in San Diego. The team finished 5-11 overall and in last place in the AFC West in 2016.

Early indications are that Feeney was a smart pick for the Chargers. CBS gave the team an A- grade for the selection and national sports website SB Nation predicts Feeney could be a "long-term starter" for the team.
