Sandburg Names Matthew Niemeier Boys Swim Coach

Niemeier, a Sandburg alum, will also coach the boys water polo team at his alma mater.

ORLAND PARK, IL - An alum has been named the new head coach of the Carl Sandburg High School boys swim and boys water polo teams. The District 230 board of education approved the hire of Matthew Niemeier to both positions and a role as a physical education instructor at a meeting last month, according to a news release from the school.

“Having the opportunity to return to the program that helped lead me into my current life path is an honor and a privilege,” Neimeier said. “I am very much looking forward to this opportunity and hope to continue to grow the successful program that was established under Jim Caliendo’s leadership.”

Niemeier was a swimmer for the Eagles in the early to mid 2000s and later competed on the swim team at Eastern Illinois University. His previous coaching experience includes a role as an assistant swim and water polo coach at York High School and head girls swim coach and boys water polo coach at Stagg.
