Silver Lake Country Club To Stay In Orland Park, Pulls Off Market
After 'soul-searching' since the family business announced the possible sale in 2021, owners said they will keep the club open.

ORLAND PARK, IL — An Orland Park country club which was listed for sale in 2021 has been taken off the market by owners after "soul searching," officials said.
The Silver Lake Country Club at 14700 South 82nd Avenue has been in the Coghill family for almost a century, according to Amy Coghill. The 45-hole golf course and banquet hall suffered at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic while restrictions limited golfing and dining but since restrictions have been lifted recently, Coghill said the club has bounced back.
"As we reflect on all the wonderful people we have met and the many beautiful memories made during more than 80 years at Silver Lake, we have decided that maintaining our legacy of golf and hospitality is the best path forward for our family and our community," Coghill said in a statement.

Crain's Chicago Business first announced the sale of the 300-acre parcel in February of 2021. Selling the property could have lead to a "massive residential development" as the coronavirus pandemic increased the demand for suburban housing, according to Crain's.
At the time, Coghill told Patch the family decided "it was [just] time," and was open to all possibilities moving forward. Coghill said it was likely to be a minimum of two years before anything "comes to fruition," but after having a record-breaking two years since the announcement, the club will remain open.

Coghill told Patch the club is not owned or maintained by a park district, which puts additional financial stress on the business.
Other than golfing, the country club hosts private parties, weddings, charity events and other outings. Learn more about the country club on its website, here.
