Smith Crossing: One Of The First Senior Communities Since March

Smith Crossing is among the first senior living communities to open new facility since March, in the state of Illinois.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Smith Crossing is among the first senior living communities to open a brand new facility since March, according to a news release. The $24 million "spa-like" rehab facility is needed for post-surgical services in older adults.

Smith Crossing Greenleaf Rehab, 10521 Emilie Lane, Orland Park, created a brand new wing with 46 private suites, a state-of-the-art gym, private therapy rooms, outdoor rehab space for physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy for short-term stay programs as well as for post-surgical care, according to the release. The facility can accept Medicare, third party insurance and private patients, immediately.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m., according to the release. Elected officials such as Illinois State Senator Michael E. Hastings (D-19th District) and Illinois State Representative Fran Hurley (D-35th District) will be there.

According to the release, before beginning construction in 2018, Smith Crossing conducted an 18-month study which revealed it could only admit 170 patients of 2,494 older adults—that’s only 11 percent—seeking short-term stay rehab there.

Plans to open Smith Crossing Greenleaf Rehab were delayed in late March or early April 2020 due to the advancement of COVID-19 in Illinois, the release states.
