Smith Crossing Residents Get Ready For Week Of Olympics
Residents at Smith Crossing in Orland Park are having an Olympics competition in anticipation of the games starting this July.
ORLAND PARK, IL — The residents are ready. Smith Crossing in Orland Park is set to host a week-long of Olympic events for its residents, beginning Monday. The week of events comes in anticipation of the Tokyo Olympics, which kickoff July 23.

WHERE: Near the main entrance at 10501 Emilie Lane, Orland Park
WHEN: Opening ceremonies begin at 11am on Monday, June 14

WHAT: The Mokena Fire Department will carry the torch and the “Old Spokes Club,” a gung-ho group of residents who are recumbent bike enthusiasts, will lead the parade. The fire department then hands the torch to Jim Nemec who opens the games. Nemec, who as a WJ Smith Board member led the planning process to establish the community and became Smith Crossing’s first Board chair, now is a resident.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE:
- Monday — Opening ceremony, 11 a.m.; volleyball 1 p.m.
- Tuesday — Discuss competition 10 a.m.; hammer throw 1 p.m.
- Wednesday — Shuffleboard 10 a.m.; Javelin 1 p.m.
- Thursday — Archery 10 a.m.; volleyball 2 p.m.
- Friday — Ring toss 10 a.m.; boccie ball 2 p.m.; closing festivities at 3 p.m.
