Two Orland Homes Struck By Fire On Easter Sunday

One blaze destroyed an abandoned house and a dryer ignited in another house in two unrelated fires that hit Orland Park on Easter Sunday.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Fires destroyed one house and damaged another in Orland Park Sunday on the Easter holiday. The fires were not related and no injures were reported.

The first blaze occurred at about 5 p.m. at a single-story, abandoned house in a wooded area near 80th Avenue and 143rd Street. Orland Fire Protection District firefighters found the house "fully involved” by fire and heavy smoke when they arrived, authorities said. Engine 5 was the first to arrive, and fought the fire with limited access to water because the house was set back more than 1,000 feet, which limited firefighters' access to water. More fire companies arrived to assist with additional water supplies, including accessing fire hydrants nearby on Chateau Court.

The fire downed a nearby power line, which threatened the firefighters' safety. ComEd came out to disable the power line while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The second fire broke out at about 6 p.m. at a house on the 15700 block of Chesterfield Lane while firefighters were still at the first scene. Crestwood, Country Club Hills and Tinley Park Fire departments assisted the Orland fire staff who were available to come to respond to the call. A dryer caught on fire, authorities said. The dryer was extinguished and removed from the house.

No injuries were reported at either fire.
