U.S. Cellular to Shut Orland Stores

The closures are tied to the company's decision to sell its Midwestern markets to Sprint Nextel. U.S. Cell customers will need to switch phones to keep their service.

Two U.S. Cellular retail stores in Orland Park will close by the end of May as part of the company's $480 million sale of its Midwestern markets to Sprint Nextel, according to Southlandsavvy.com.

The local stores are at 15829 La Grange Rd. and 15845 Harlem Ave. Other store closure locations include Country Club Hills, Countryside, Evergreen Park, Crestwood, Homewood, Chicago, Lansing, Joliet, Olympia Fields, Oak Lawn and Matteson.

All told, the company will close nearly 70 outlets in Illinois and Indiana in a process that will start May 17 and could be completed in about two weeks, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.
